I’m Margie Scherschligt, a Minneapolis-area reading and spelling tutor trained in the Orton-Gillingham methodology. For over 15 years, I’ve worked with students, schools, and families to build skills, restore confidence, and recover grade-level deficits. I specialize in working with kids with dyslexia and similar reading and spelling challenges.

I’ve worked with hundreds of kids of all grade levels. I’d love to work with your family.

Who my services benefit

  • Students diagnosed with certain reading challenges, including forms of dyslexia.
  • Students struggling to master the fundamentals of English spelling.
  • Students who may be reading below grade level.
  • Home-schooled students who need supplemental reading and spelling instruction.
  • Students of any age or grade.

How it works

  • I work in individualized sessions with your child. Sessions are usually one-on-one, though in some situations I will work with up to three students during a session.
  • Sessions are typically 50-minutes long.
  • During each session, we work on foundations of reading and spelling, using Orton-Gillingham techniques. We break language into recognizable components. We work on mastering those components to form words and sentences. Over time, we introduce exceptions and sight words.
  • We meet either in my home studio in Plymouth, MN, or in your home in Minneapolis or the near western suburbs. I also offer remote services using Zoom, which is especially effective on an occasional, supplemental basis.
  • Sessions are usually scheduled between 3:00 and 6:00 PM, after the school day is complete. However, I have worked with some students at their schools during the day, and I’ve even worked with students early in the morning.
  • Ideally, we work together twice a week. However, in many cases once weekly is more convenient for a family’s schedule.
  • Generally, I work with students for one to three years. In some cases, I’ve worked with students throughout their K-12 educational journey, from early elementary grades all the way through high school. Building reading skills is hard work for these kids. While usually we see initial improvements pretty quickly, getting them back to grade level requires commitment and time. Fortunately, the kids I work with are hard workers who are willing to put in the effort to succeed.
